X-Files Column The X-Files: A column for Sci-Fi Tattler by Michelle Nordblom, aka ReinaVyntr@aol.com © 1994 Michelle Nordblom Here’s Michelle, aka ReinaVyntr@aol.com, back to report to you, fellow X-Philes and “Tattler” readers, about the recent speculation and conversation on our favorite show, “The X-Files.” Today we’ll recap some of the recent online gossip, and I’ll share with you the sources for some information on the ‘Net (like FAQ, FTP, and fan club sites). Since our last issue, the big talk has been about the episode “Red Museum.” If you haven’t seen this one, you’ve missed one of the best. Part of the fascination with this episode is based on what didn’t happen. Let me explain: the staff of the X-Files had been discussing with the staff of the CBS series “Picket Fences” on doing a crossover storyline about an alien DNA experiment on cows and young children in a midwestern town. Well, the story carried over, even if Mulder’s character didn’t, but this episode was even more significant. Remember CrewCutMan? The assassin that killed DeepThroat? Several AOL members recognized him on the spot, and revenge be done, he was killed in this episode. Because of a certain scene in “Red Museum” involving barbecue sauce, there has also been some speculation on whether Mulder and Scully will develop a, um, intimate relationship. To me, PSYLOCK999 (on AOL) sums up the general feeling best: “I think that their getting involved while on the show would sort of compromise their opposite natures. He's fire, she's ice, and if they got together on the show, they would make steam and we wouldn't be able to see anything good.” Well said. Some people say that they wouldn’t mind seeing a romantic relationship develop, others just can’t picture it. Most doubt that Chris Carter would allow that to happen, because romance would ruin Scully and Mulder’s working relationship and turn the show into a soap opera. I agree. We all have worked closely with someone desirable or attractive, without getting involved, right? I haven’t yet verified this, but I read in the X-Files TVGossip area on AOL that Gillian Anderson said on camera that the producers are planning an X-Files movie. Another rumor around is that Gillian Anderson might be making an appearance at the Atlanta Fantasy Fair ‘95. If any readers have more info on these possibilities, please e-mail me! For X-Philes looking for interesting conversations on the TVGossip boards, check out the “X-Files Rumor Mill” bulletin board, where members claim “I shot J.R.,” and “I was behind the grassy knoll,” and where several female members have made plans to steal David Duchovny away from his girlfriend and share him amongst themselves. A response to their online lustings was posted by GeorgeK409: “Settle down, Frohike [Here, Frohike refers to Females Roving Online Having Insatiable Karnal Expectations]”. The only general rule about messages here is that they are strange! (And quite imaginative.) SVenn1969, an AOL member, posted a message in TVGossip saying that he’s trying to start an X-Files zine and needs submissions and advertising. If you’re interested in contributing either creatively or monetarily (for ads or subscriptions) state your interest by e-mail. He’s looking forward to starting with a 24-page publication. Wow! For new subscribers and fans of the show, you can find information on the X-Files in several spots on the Internet. On America Online, there is a whole area for X-Files, under the TVGossip keyword. I’ve heard that Delphi has a huge amount of stuff, and is home to the XF producers’ E-mail accounts (try foxnet@delphi.com). You can also access the newsgroup alt.tv.x-files for more discussions, or submit story and episode ideas to the alt.tv.x-files.creative newsgroup. In these newsgroups, I’ve found episode synopses, poems to Mulder, Scully and from Tooms, episode guides, and the X-Files YAXA list. Check it out! If any of our readers have suggestions or ideas for this column, feel free to e-mail me. I could always use the information if you’ve seen something interesting! Let me know--I want to believe.
